NTT MSC Launches IPv6 Commercial Services in Malaysia
Sharing the Global Internet Advancement with Customers
NTT MSC is pleased to announce that it is ready
to offer next-generation Internet IPv6 commercial services
under the Arcnet6 product name in Malaysia today. In conjunction
with its parent company, NTT Communications, the leading Global
IP Company, NTT MSC will offer a broad array of IPv6 solutions
which includes Native IPv6 Interconnectivity, IPv6 over IPv4
Tunneling,
IPv6 Web-hosting, and IPv6 Co-location Services. This strategic
and extensive IPv6 service launch of Arcnet6 will mark
the revolutionary move of the advanced protocol in Malaysia
and drive the diffusion of IPv6 within local IT community.
IPv6 is short for Internet Protocol Version
6, designed by the Internet Engineering Task Force (IETF)
to replace the current version of Internet Protocol, Version
4. IPv6 is designed to address the number of problems in IPv4
and introduce many
new improvements to cater for the future of the Internet.
Among these enhancements include:
§ Larger IP address range. IPv4 address
exhaustion is predicted to happen between 2005 and 2011;
Improved
routing efficiency and quality of service (QoS);
Network
auto-configuration;
In-built security extensions;
Mobility
support.
NTT MSC has been pioneering the IPv6 development
locally since July 1999, when the company setup IPv6 R&D
activities
atits headquarters in the nation's information and communications
technology nucleus, Cyberjaya. NTT MSC is also the first Internet
Service Provider to introduce commercial IPv6 technology in
Malaysia. It has the utmost strength required to combine the
innovative global Internet protocol and commercial services,
reaching out and benefiting local customers at reasonable
and affordable prices.
"Foreseeing the imminent demand on IP addresses
from Internet users, IPv6 will undoubtedly replace the current
IPv4 standard gradually. Since business opportunities on broadband
and wireless communications such as DSL, wireless local loops/
hotspots, m-commerce, and soon 3G mobile telephony, are emerging
these days, utilizing more IP addresses and quality protocol
will be a necessity. We believe that it is the prime time
for enterprises to gear up for the advent of the next generation
IP technology," said Mr. Hiromitsu Honda, CEO/President
of NTT MSC. "NTT MSC is committed to offering the most
advanced, cost-effective, and secure Internet platform for
businesses here in Malaysia. The introduction of IPv6 services
and various
high-end network security measures further demonstrates our
commitment to this and our activities here in Cyberjaya. Arcnet6
is a locally-developed service which is 'Made in Cyberjaya'
and is in line with the Malaysian Government vision to make
Malaysia a major global hub for communications and multimedia
information services," he added.
With regard to the Arcnet6 service profile,
there are currently 3 main services: IPv6 Interconnectivity,
IPv6 Web hosting,
and IPv6 Co-location Services:
IPv6 interconnectivity to Arcnet6 is offered
via either native IPv6 interconnectivity or IPv4 over IPv6
tunneling technology.
Via tunneled services customers can easily upgrade their existing
network equipment to support dual-IP stacks. This enables
the use of both IPv4 and IPv6, and can be seen as one of the
steps towards IPv6 transition and migration.
IPv6 Web hosting and Co-location Services are
introduced to cater for current users on a global IPv6 network
infrastructure. Through IPv6 capable hosting or co-location
services, customers' web sites are now capable to be viewed
by Internet surfers with IPv6 addresses. NTT MSC will introduce
more IPv6 services in the future when available.
"Corporations nowadays are facing a new
era of challenges and opportunities. If you do not endeavor
to grasp the ample opportunity, market capture seems beyond
control. NTT MSC hopes that there is a strong interest in
Malaysia for early adopters in IPv6. There is much advantage
to gain in these early stages in terms of IPv6 awareness,
experience, and transition preparation " Mr. Honda added.
